Sara graduated in Biomedical Laboratory Techniques at the University of Ancona (2000) and in Biological Sciences from the Marche Polytechnic University (2005). Doctor in Food and Health by the Marche Polytechnic University (2009) and FUNIBER International Master in Nutrition and Dietetics by the University of León (2010). She held a predoctoral stay at the Plant Research International at Wageningen (Netherlands), and a subsequent stay at the Scottish Crop Research Institute at Dundee (Scotland).

Currently, her main research focus on the application of metabolomics to study the urinary metabolome changes after consumption of typical foods of the Mediterranean diet, with particular attention to nuts, and in identifying potential nutritional biomarkers of consumption of these foods and biomarkers of effect on health promotion.
