Raul has the Human Nutrition and Dietetics diploma (2000), and the Food Science and Technology degree from the University of Barcelona (2003). Raul also has the postgraduate diploma in Statistics in Health Sciences (2007) and the Master in Methodology of Health Sciences (2009) from Autonomous University of Barcelona. He holds a PhD, with European mention, for the University of Barcelona (2008). He performed a predoctoral stage in the Antioxidant Research Laboratory, National Institute of Food and Nutrition Research (INRAN) in Rome (Italy) for 4 months (2006-07), and a postdoctoral stage in the Nutrition and Metabolism Unit, International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in Lyon (France) for 6 months (2011). Nowadays, he works as postdoctoral researcher (Sara Borrell) in the Nutrition, Environment and Cancer, Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO-IDIBELL), Barcelona.
Raul is working with the following research lines: polyphenol metabolites as nutritional biomarkers; polyphenols consumption in European population (EPIC study- European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition) and their relationships with health, particularly with overall mortality, cancer and CVD.
